The Folly
Sleeps 2
Artist-designed holiday home in Devon
Our fantastic Folly holds a prime spot at Fingals, overlooking the seasonal grass tennis court and rolling Devon countryside beyond. From the Buddha in the hallway to the array of sailing boats on the upstairs beams, this space oozes character. Designed by architect and artist Andras Kaldor, this unique holiday home offers guests a tranquil getaway right in the heart of the beautiful South Hams. Cosy up by the wood burner, kickback on the comfy sofas with a good book or while away the afternoon sitting on the dock alongside the babbling brook. This is the perfect place to get away from it all.
The accommodation
Set across two floors, The Folly has a sumptuous ground level bedroom and a light, bright living space above. It has a large double bed, freestanding bathtub and riverboat cuddle chair, making it a haven for those coming away to relax. From the rear of the Folly, you overlook a mini wilderness inhabited by butterflies, dragonflies, kingfishers and the very occasional otter. You might even spot a wee brown trout in the stream if you are lucky! Upstairs you’ll find a compact but well-equipped self-catering kitchen with its own balcony, a sunny living room and a delightful south-facing balcony with views out to the tennis court and gardens.
Discover the cultural wonders of Devon
South Devon has long since been a haven for those looking for peace, restorative nature and creative inspiration. In fact, world-famous author Agatha Christie had a holiday home just across the water from us. You can visit the house today which is maintained by the National Trust and wander around the romantic woodland garden, vinery and peach garden. It’s like stepping straight into the pages of one of her novels. Or perhaps you’d fancy a visit to the 1,200 acre Dartington Trust, which is both a visitor attraction and centre for progressive learning. Here you’ll find The Barn Cinema, an independent cinema in a converted 14th century barn set in a medieval courtyard, which plays arthouse, indie, kids classics, and blockbuster films throughout the season. There are also many summer festivals and plenty of places to eat and drink. We’d recommend The White Hart, Roundhouse Cafe or The Green Table.
Dog-friendly Devon cottage
We are more than happy for you to bring your four-legged friend along to enjoy this quiet and tranquil holiday cottage. We have two friendly Lurchers that call Fingals home, so we have lots of tried-and-tested dog walks that we’d be delighted to share with you. We do ask however, that dogs are taken with you whenever you leave the property to avoid any damage or noise disturbance for other guests.
